The Early Years (1937-1962)


During the time prior to 1960, he produced compositions that possess serene flowing forms with vibrant color and texture. "Self Portrait"(1951) exudes a feeling of peace and nostalgia, as well as a bit of humor, although produced during Korean War. By the early 1960¡¯s, Chang¡¯s works gradually began to show more implicit and lyrical expressions, which led to Chang¡¯s creation of "Bird at Night¡± (1961), the precursor to his abstract paintings.
